Unplugged Youth & Young Adults

As I was watching a popular show on MTV, Teen Mom, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for those moms and their babies. These are teen moms who have low self-esteem; who either feel trapped in their relationships or have a broken relationship and feel hopeless or feel like they will forever be single raising a baby alone. Some are fortunate to have good parents and are there for them in their time of need, while others aren’t so lucky. They are basically babies raising babies, and I sometimes wonder what has the world come to?

All you see on TV now a days are shows promoting sex, drugs, wild parties, and calling this the “norm”. If you aren’t into these things then you are weird or a prude. I remember one time in high school, a friend of mine called me “a prude” because I wouldn’t engage in a conversation about sex. As a young girl, that put my self-esteem down because I felt like everyone was talking and spreading rumors about me. My high school years were very dark and not fun for me at all. I never had a youth group that met every week or cared, so I really didn’t have anyone to talk to. All the people I talked to were in school, and it was from them I learnt what I needed to learn about sex and how you were supposed to act and look as a girl. But there was so much more to this than I could imagine.

Where am I trying to get at? Well first off, you don’t need to feel hopeless for any reason because there’s someone bigger that gives you hope. There’s no reason for you to have low self-esteem because there’s someone who can give you all the confidence you need. There’s no reason to be in a broken relationship because there’s someone better who wants to have a personal relationship with you. If you are thinking what I’m thinking, then you are thinking right. The person I’m talking (or in this case writing) about is Jesus! I can almost hear the dramatic effect of the angels singing “aaahhhhh”. LOL!!! But no seriously, Jesus is the One and Only! He’s the way the truth and the life! I promise you He will never fail you. Just open up your heart and give Him a chance, trust me!

Romans 13:12-14

The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
