The Story of Balaam, the Donkey and Balak

Numbers Chapter 22 – Balak Summons Balaam to curse Israel, Balaam gets up and goes, his Donkey sees the angel of the Lord as Balaam couldn’t see, the angel was about to kill him and if it wasn’t for his Donkey, he would have died! The donkey spoke and told Balaam, why are you hitting me? Can’t you see there’s an angel man?! So then God opened Balaam’s eyes and he saw what the Donkey saw, the angel of the Lord.

Numbers Chapters 23-24 – It is interesting that once Balaam gets the go ahead from the Angel to go to Balak, the Lord places 3 oracles in the lips of Balaam to bless the people of Israel, at the rage of Balak, he could not get Balaam to curse the people. Do you understand this? What God Blesses, NO MAN CAN CURSE. What a wonderful teaching for us. What an assurance that no man, no king, no authority from the spiritual world can ever, ever curse what GOD has ALREADY blessed.

Numbers 24:10-11 – Then Balak’s anger burned against Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to him, “I summoned you to curse my enemies, but you have blessed them these three times. Now leave at once and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the Lord has kept you from being rewarded.”

Numbers 24:12-14 – Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not tell the messengers you sent me, ‘Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the Lord—and I must say only what the Lord says’? Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in days to come.”

Balak sends Balaam home, realizing that he could not force Balaam to do anything other than what God spoke, which was to doom the nations against Israel and bless His nation, His people.

1: How can we relate that to our lives?
2: Can you think back to the curses or accusations that the enemy has tried to weight down to your name at some point of your life?
3: Does it give you hope that God, our father in heaven, would not let anything or anyone curse us?

Pray today that God may allow you to rest in Him and be at peace, knowing that what He has blessed, no one can curse. Thank Him for loving you today and making you a part of His family. Read Ephesians 1, and thank the Father for adopting you as his children. No matter your situation or what you’ve gone through, you can be assured that His people ARE blessed, because God says so.
