Warn Each Other

Warn each other

Do you enjoy rest? God desires to give us a place of rest. A place of abundance and peace. Of joy. We all want that, Honestly God’s rest is incredible and peaceful and amazing. Every human being desires God’s rest package. The most desired “vacation package” of all kinds.

But the Bible tells us that this rest comes with a price. Hebrews 3 talks about what we must do as a people to find that rest.

“Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later. But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ. (Hebrews 3:5-6)

1: Keep Courage

Wow – what does courage mean? You ever heard that saying “stay strong” – When life goes gray – keep courage. That is, be steadily persistent in your walk. Persevere!

That is why the Holy Spirit says, “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness. There your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw my miracles for forty years. So I was angry with them, and I said, ‘Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’ So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’” (Hebrews 3:7-11)

2: Don’t harden your heart.

The Bible says twice in this chapter Do. not. harden. Your heart!!!! It says a key word “hear” when you HEAR his voice – don’t harden your hearts. Do you realize that God is constantly speaking to you whether you recognize it or not? And when you HEAR his voice (right now) – don’t think this word isn’t for you. It is. Do not harden your heart – meaning let God correct you, mold you, humble yourself before your enemies. Love them. Pride is ugly!!! Forgive…. humble yourself… do what God tells you. Obey. Be a student. Follow instructions and be willing to be a “slave”.

Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. (Hebrews 3:12-13)

3: Warn each other.

Wow. It actually says that? That we have permission to tell one another to “get it together boo you’re wrong!” – while we are still here on earth we may be deceived into the wrong thoughts and that can cause us to harden our hearts. Gee, don’t be that person for the love of God. Don’t turn away!

For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt? And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness? And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him? So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.” (Hebrews 3:14-19)

4: Learn.

Notice how it says “Be faithful till the end.” He then repeats “today when you hear….” AGAIN. Ok we get it. That’s two times. And reminds us that the Israelites went through this heartache, too. See a pattern here? They’re our ultimate example. They is us. We do this same thing. So we see that because they were disobedient and prideful they did NOT enter the place of rest.

So my thoughts to you today are, do you want to rest? Follow these steps from the book of Hebrews from the Bible. It’s not easy and you will have to swallow your beautiful and lovely pride. But all for that rest! Yea sure Jesus I’ll take it! Oh, it’s soooooo sweet. And when that rest comes; you will be complete!

Trust Him.

And warn each other.
